I don't think many people have heard of The A*Teens. They were a Swedish pop group. The band was active from 1998-2004. They were an ABBA tribute band. This song came out in 2000.
This music video starts in a white room with blue poles. They show a zoomed in and zoomed out angle of each band member and the screen is asymmetrically divided between the two different pictures. They show the band members walking on the ceiling. They are all dressed in white. They show the band members in a different outfit in a more playful/bedroom room. The video flips from right side up to side ways to upside. This happens a lot during the video. The guys are in one car and the girls are in another car driving. Both people are singing their parts in the song (guy and girl part). They show all of the band members in white again walking down this hallway. The people slowly get closer to the screen and then it transitions to them walking in the same position, but with different clothes on. Around 2:18 minutes the one girl singer looks like she is floating towards the screen singing. I think that is a weird and awkward part. If she is going to be that close to the screen she shouldn't appear to be floating. There are a lot of extra people dancing around 2:24 minutes.
There are a lot of transitions and video effects through this piece including reflection, turning the video upside, flickering, dividing the screen, and flipping the screen. It is very annoying that the voices don't match at all with the people lip syncing in the video. I understand that this song is called "Upside Down," but that doesn't mean flip the screen upside or sideways every five seconds. This was one of my favorite songs when I was younger and that won't change, but the music video is not that good. I think there are some good concepts and parts, but I don't think it was executed well. I thought this video was amazing when I was a little kid, but not anymore. I do like the different zoomed in and zoomed out shots and the different angles of the people and the room. I thought the place was interesting too. The video quality was poor. It was blurry and fuzzy in some spots.
